"I had the most awesome cake today."
"You are an awesome mom."
So that cake, that soccer, that person inspires awe in you?
Awe is an overwhelming feeling of reverence, admiration and fear.
When we use magnificent language to describe non-magnificent things, what words do we have left to describe that which truly is awesome?

I wish I could find it on YouTube, but there is this hilarious video that (I believe) "Talk Soup" did a while back where they pieced together dozens of 20-somethings saying "AMAZING!!!" in every imaginable context from all these reality TV shows, as if to show just how ironically uninspired and ubiquitous the word has become.
Amazing is another one.
This ketchup is amazing, this pen is amazing, that cat climbing the tree is amazing.......
